With a grand view sweeping out over False Bay, and then close up to Simon’s Town’s yacht basin and the Navy’s harbour, you can hear the seagulls and smell the sea, barely a stone’s throw from the balconies of this newly renovated three-level townhouse.
With beds for eight people in four bedrooms – three with direct sea views and the fourth onto the Fynbos mountainside behind the Zante complex – No. 18 has been refurbished from top to bottom with a focus on quality to create a luxurious, modern, full-convenience holiday home which is ideally located as a base for your vacation. With a lock-up garage and off-street parking, you enter at mid-level through a shady, wind-protected courtyard with swingbench. First stop is the fully-equipped kitchen: Granite tops, all the usual appliances with plenty cupboard space, gas hob, under-counter oven, dishwasher, microwave, combo fridge-freezer, and more. For laundry, the washer-dryer is two steps away through the internal door to the garage.
This mid–level opens out to the eight-seater dining area, a bar counter for two, and the lounge area, which is equipped with a wi-fi enabled large-screen TV, plus cable (DSTV) and DVD player. Wireless internet connectivity is available throughout the unit, but works best in the lounge-dining area. A large, enclosed glass balcony with sliding windows and easy chairs provides stunning views over the bay. Then, an outside staircase spirals down to the lower-level front patio & garden area, complete with another eight-seater all-weather table, and a wheelie Weber braai for barbeque enthusiasts.
This lower level features two bedrooms, each with double beds, and their own openings onto the patio. Downstairs guests share washroom facilities, including a spacious shower.
Take the internal staircase back up to the mid-level and then further to the upstairs bedrooms. The piece de resistance is the huge main bedroom with the best views of all, both from in bed and also the exclusive open balcony outside with café table and two chairs for that sun downer glass of the Cape’s best. Sunrise over False Bay is even more spectacular for the early risers. And those needing to sleep in a bit should find the all-round plantation shutters a blessing.
Right next door is a spacious dressing room with lots of cupboard space. This leads to the en suite bathroom with shower and a lazy bath for two – also with its own fine view out to sea.
From the main bedroom, an inter-leading door takes you to the fourth bedroom – the one with the mountain view – with two single beds. This bedroom is ideally suited for young children.
With highly rated lock-up-and-go security features throughout, this holiday base is a leisurely 10-minute walk along Main Road to Long Beach for a swim, or the railway station for a scenic ride all the way back up the Peninsula and into Cape Town’s city centre.
Continue strolling for a couple hundred or so metres more, and you’re in the heart of historic Simon’s Town; with the harbour and unique tourist attractions, including the art galleries, pubs, quaint shops and a variety of excellent restaurants.
